How to display Your Family Photos in your home !

Picture Walls

There’s something special about displaying your personal family art in your home. It may be a candid photo of your family or a cherished memory from years ago, they help your space feel warmer and more personal. Here are a few tips for hanging your family photos around the house.

Choose Your Photos

When it comes to family photos, some might prefer to display their most recent pictures and update them as the family / children grow. Personally, I love the charm of older photos. There’s something about seeing pictures from years ago – like a snapshot of the past, frozen in time. They bring in nostalgia, reminding me of happy times shared with loved ones. So Consider mixing up your selection – balance the newer shots with some timeless treasures that will make you smile every time you walk by.

The Best Places to Display Family Photos

Last time my family and I were searching for a new home, one thing really stood out to me. We walked into a house and were greeted by beautiful smiles in photographs that adorned the hallway. I can still vividly remember how it felt – like I was getting a peek into the life of the family that lived there. Those family photos instantly gave the space personality and warmth. I could imagine the joy of creating similar memories if we moved in. It made a lasting impact on me, and I still think about those photos when I reflect on the home.

Consider displaying your family photos in spaces where they can shine – hallways, living rooms, or staircases. These are areas where visitors pass by and we ourselves go by so many times and A family gallery wall at such places can tell a beautiful story of love and your cherished moments. Apart from that I love displaying pictures of children in their own rooms, where they can see themselves first when they wake up. Little photos displayed at bedside table or on top of chest of drawers etc. competes the picture.

3 Ways to Create Your Gallery Wall

Keep It Cohesive and Simple: For a cleaner, more uniform look, go for a grid arrangement using frames in similar styles, such as black, white, or subtle wood tones. This approach will help keep the focus on the photos themselves and create a timeless, harmonious display. Makes sure that the distance between the frames is no more than half the width of a frame. Go Big with Oversized Frames: If you have a larger wall, consider using three oversized frames to make a bold statement. It’s important to choose the right size frames for your wall and keep the right distance between the frames. If frames are too far apart, they will look more like separate pieces of art rather than a gallery and if they are too close, it will take away the elegance of the frames.

Mix and Match Frames: Start by choosing a variety of frames in different sizes, materials, and shapes. The key is to find a mix that works well together. You can combine vintage frames with modern ones for more dynamic look. It’s little difficult to achieve considering the effort needed to mix and match the items to hang together in a balanced way. Also, if you count’d get it right, they would look like more like a mess than a decor. I would not got his route if I dont know what I am doing.

When I created this in my living room, this is what I did.

  • I divided the frames in 2 raws, they are different size frames.

  • All the frames on the top row align at their bottom edge

  • All the frames displayed at borrow row align at the top edge.

  • It creates a middle line to add some discipline to the arrangement even though they are all different colour and size.

If this might sound confusing and I get it. Sometimes I wish artistic perspectives were like mathematics. Its either yes or no. But, that’s the fun part, finding the mathematics and creating a balanced arrangement.
